The Wonderland Ballroom Offers More Than Dancing #Wonderlandballroom #Brunch #WashingtonDC #new experiences

Washington, DC has so many hidden neighborhood gems it is hard to stay on top of them all.  Every day I learn of another great place to dine and socialize.  It would appear that DC residents have a lot of disposal income to dine out for many meals. I have to admit, we like to socialize.

A place that was highly recommended to me recently was the Wonderland Ballroom.  It appears that this place is well known in its neighborhood but not in DC as a whole.  I was invited to meet a group there for brunch.  I read the menu online and it was decent.  However, the event was canceled twice due to rain.  This made my excitement increase as I continued to scan the menu online and change my menu choices.

When the day arrived, I walked the 10 minutes to the Metro station, hopped on the Metro train and rode to the closest Metro stop to The Wonderland Ballroom.  I walked several blocks to get to my destination.  I was surprised.  There it was on the corner looking like a Pavillon with lots of picnic tables.  This was not what I imaged being something called a 'ballroom'.  I greeted the group, sat and ordered a mimosa.  The mimosa came in an entire champagne bottom pre-mixed.    It was a GREAT price and meant to share.  I had other plans. It was for me and only me.  Frankly, I think this was the best part of the brunch.

This place seemed to be known for its breakfast bowls.  I do not like my food all in a bowl touching each other.  I chose something else that was simple and neat...scramble eggs with cheese, bacon, and pancakes.  It was decent but not great.  Others had the breakfast bowls and really seem to enjoy them.

Breakfast Bowl and side of Pancakes

It appeared that you get more food in the breakfast bowls which surprised many who ordered sides like the pancakes.  There was no way they could eat it all.  It was a lovely experience at an affordable price.  The service was OK, but they kept forgetting pieces of the order such as the person who ordered the pancakes ordered bacon with it.  It came with fruit and his bacon which he had to remind the waiter twice came much later.   Somebody just never got their coffee.  Personally, my order was described, I had real butter for my pancakes.  I only wish I had pure maple syrup for them as well.  Yes, I am a purist!  I was glad we had great weather because it would appear that you only eat outside.
