I Love Sambusas #eastafrican #ethiopian
I wanted a quick lunch on the run. I needed to drive to an engagement with little time for a sit down lunch. I really did not want anything heavy or too greasy since I planned to eat it in my car. My choice, based on location, was not pizza (another favorite) but sambusas. I could easily eat them while driving.
I haven't had them in a while but the smell and flavor stayed in my mind. I wanted those tasty triangle meat filled pastries. If you are not familiar with sambusas, let me give you a simple description. They are succulent pastries filled with onions, leeks, garlic, meat/vegetables (ground beef my choice but lamb is good), cumin, cardamom, salt, and pepper gently fried to perfection.
I ordered mine from a local Ethiopian restaurant near my assignment location. Luck for me, I did not have to wait. They had them waiting in the counter window. I ordered all they had of the ground beef, which was only three. If they had more, I would of purchased them all.

It looked and smelled awesome........
I took my first bite and started the car. I took another bite and pulled into traffic. I happily couldn't wait for traffic lights so I could take more bites without distractions. Unfortunately, most of my lights were green. Tell me where is a red light when you need them!
I am sad to say, that when I arrived at my destination, two of the sambusas were gone with lots of crumbs and filling all over my shirt and the front passenger seat. I ate the crumbs and filling from my shirt and.....
