New Orleans Po Boys in Waashington, DC #PoBoys #PoBoyJims #HStreetNE #lunchbrunch

My friends and I choose a lunch/brunch spot every other month to get together and savor our friendship.  When it was my turn to select a place, I chose a black own restaurant in DC known for its excellent New Orleans flair - Po Boy Jim's on the H Street corridor.  I loved the rustic vibe of the place.

We were seated upstairs and greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable waiter

I am sad to say we gave this young man a hard time.  We wanted coffee.  They had none.  It was not on the menu.  We wanted cranberry juice with our champagne.  Guess what, no cranberry juice.   We were disappointed but pursued on.  We ordered the traditional orange juice with our champagne.  The good thing was that he kept our glasses filled and added good humor with each refill.

Personally, I knew just what I wanted to order - a shrimp Po boy.  My friends were not so lucky; there were so many delicious choices.

They made their choices and the food arrived.  The only snag was that the easy order - basic eggs arrived late after the most complicated orders...

We all agreed that the food was fantastic with my shrimp Po boy the overall winners based upon the tasting of all my friends.  I guess, I just knew.

We stayed for hours talking with other patrons, and eating even sampling the beignets  that were given to us on the house.  The place, despite the shortcomings mentioned, was a wonder dining experience.  I have to say.....they really need to get chicory coffee to get into the New Orleans spirit.
