Lunch and shopping at Ikea

I always thought of Ikea as shopping only.  But no, they serve food and good food at that.  Although my brother has been telling me for years about the incredible Swedish meatballs, I am a shame to say I never had them.  Nor I had I shopped at Ikea.  Frankly, I was just afraid I would love the store too much and break the bank.   But, finally I entered the doors.

Just as I imagined, I loved the store from the front door.  I arrived just at lunchtime.  I couldn't decide to shop or eat first.  My stomach made the decision.  I followed my nose and went straight to the restaurant.  I marveled at the number of people waiting in line.  I scanned the menu. So many great choices - chicken tenders, salads crab cakes, the famous Swedish meatballs and more.  I heard my brother whispering in my ear.....eat the Swedish meatballs.  I ordered the Swedish meatball dinner.

The server placed fifteen (15) Swedish meatballs on a real plate with creamy real mashed potatoes, lingonberry jelly, and toss salad for less than $7.00.     I was floored.  I could not believe the price.  I couldn't wait to taste it.   I can tell you that my brother did not lie.  The meatball were delicious.  The creamy white sauce covering the meatball was so tasty that I ate nine (9) meatballs.  I ate all the mash potatoes, the tangy jelly, and the salad.  I packed the rest of the meatballs to eat later.

I was full and satisfied.  I loved the idea that Ikea is environmental conscious.  It was nice eating with real silverware, glasses, and plates.  I was a little disappointed that they did not have straws.  But straws are not environmentally friendly.  And the system to discard your waste in a separate little discreet area, was unique.  It kept all the mess isolated from the dining area.

After a great lunch, I had to complete my time shopping. I did financially well purchasing many 'must' haves.  I made sure I stopped at the food store on the way out to get Swedish pancakes and smoked salmon for breakfast in the morning.  All I can say is that  it was great having lunch and shopping at Ikea.
