I Want Mussels!
I am a firm advocate of bring my lunch to work. In fact, I take a lot of time planning my lunches. It is my largest meal of my day. So I attempt to make it the most luxurious meal - quality ingredients which are nicely presented for just me!
Today it is mussels. I wish I could say I prepared it using my own hands. However, I would be lying. I have discovered, by accident, a fantastic mussel dish prepared at Aldi supermarket. Surprised? So was I. However, they have in their frozen seafood section frozen mussel with butter and garlic. Oh so good.
I took this frozen package to work with me. I opened the package and placed it in a large bowl formed from aluminum foil. I find this works best if you don't have a stove. And, it is much better than using the microwave, The bowl enables all the liquid to melt and cover the delicate mussels. I heated the mussels on 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. I kept checking to ensure the butter and garlic covered and infused the mussels.
When all mussels were opened, I basted the mussels a little more with the liquid. I discarded any unopened mussels. Those mussels could, as I have read, cause me to be ill. I placed the cooked mussels on a metal platter over a plastic dish. As the mussels cooled to touch, I buttered some crusty bread and toasted them in the toaster oven.
With mussels cooled to touch, I place my bread on the platter near the mussels. Slowly the flavorful juices of the mussels - the butter and garlic soaked into the bread. I sat down and ate the mussel while soaking my bread into the juices that collected around my black treasures. I ate and ate. savoring each and every morsel.
I almost felt embarrass having such a delicious meal at work. I almost felt as though it should of been a private moment at home by candle light. But, I wanted mussels for lunch and I had to work. I had mussels and juices all over my fingers and unfortunately my blouse. I wanted and had mussels. Maybe they were not all over my body. However, I enjoyed them in my mouth. I can live quite happily with having mussels in my stomach. I believe I can see the difference. I know I can feel the difference, What a great way to get mussels.
