A Hidden Neighborhood Gem

I am really big in supporting my community businesses.  I love walking from place to place in my community shopping, getting my hair and nails done, and dining out.  I guess you could call me a city girl.   Nobody would every guess I was born and raised in a suburban city in Connecticut when I keep my car parked and walk as much as possible.  This however does not work real well with my suburban friends  If they can't drive and park, they don't want to go.  Unfortunately, this can be difficult in Washington, DC.  So when my co-worker Ms. B and I decided to go to lunch together, I had to think really hard.  The selected restaurant had to be close to the job due to our limited amount of time and have parking.

As Ms. B started the car engine, I began to think.....What restaurant meets all the criteria and also has good reasonable price food?  It hit me when we were a couple block for the job.  I had her turn around and head in another direction.  I knew "Flip It 2" would fit the bill.  We traveled about 15 minutes and pulled into the parking lot.  My co-worker was amazed at such a place in DC with plenty of FREE parking.

Due to the cold weather, the place was almost empty except for a large party of 12 and two people sitting at the counter.  Several people came in through out our stay for carry-out orders.   We sat by the window and watched the traffic go by.  Although we have worked together for almost a year, this was our first lunch together.   She really was good company and shared a lot about herself.  I ordered French fries and a steak and cheese sandwich.  She scanned the menu and was pleasantly surprised at the wide selections of entrees.  She finally settled for fried plantains with sour cream, baked salmon, macaroni and cheese, and collard greens.

Our food arrived and it was delicious.  She seem mildly shocked that the food was so good.  I shared with her that this was one of my neighborhood's hidden gems.  I walk to this restaurant from my home.  I love their breakfast.  We were supporting one of my community businesses.  She smiled and said she didn't know I lived nearby.
