I cannot think of a nicer way to spend a Saturday afternoon than with good friends and good food. Our small ladies' group have been friends for over 30 years and try to meet every other month for a ladies' lunch. We take turns picking a spot and usually pick a place that offers mimosa/champagne. I had the fortunate of picking the restaurant in June. I selected a lovely place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC called Bodega that had great reviews and offered both indoor and outdoor dining.
I was the first to arrive and made an observation of the restaurant before my friends arrived. I wanted to ensure I made a good choice. I was impressed on entering the facility. It was bright and airy with a very efficient welcomer staff. My friends arrived shortly, and we sat inside near the window on tall stools and table. Our introduced himself and arrived with water and lovely bread accompanied by great oil olive for dipping. It was a great touch.
We all started with the mimosas (all you can drink for 2 of us)/champagne/wine for toasting. For some reason we had not been together since October of 2021. As we discussed our current lives, we scanned the menu and discussed options. We decided against all you can eat tapas. We all need to watch our waist and hip lines.
Instead, we ordered the following and ate every bite.
Steak, eggs, and potatoes. This is my meal. Notice the slices of garlic and olive oil on the steak!
I left there thinking it was the best meal I ever had. I had to think why. Although both the service and the food were exceptional, it has some more. Bodega had a quiet and warm atmosphere that made you feel that you were in your friends/family home. We could have stayed there forever. We almost took off over shoes and hugged the waiters we were so comfortable!
