Have You Been To One of the Highest Rated Pizza Places in the USA? #pizza #WestHaven #Connecticut #Zuppardi's

I know you heard this before.  But, I LOVE PIZZA.  Imagine my surprise when I read online that one of the best pizza places in the entire USA was in my hometown of West Haven, CT.  I was shocked.  I have always dined at New Haven pizzas.  But in my own backyard, I could find a place that is considered one of best.  It was even filmed by Drive-ins, Diners, and Dives.   I had to go on my next visit home once travel was good during the Covid-19 pandemic.  

In September 2021, I boarded a Amtrak train in Washington, DC headed home to West Haven, Connecticut.  My mission, among other things, was to get pizza at Zuppardi's.  Upon my arrival, I headed to Zuppardi's Apizza.  I was disappointed because the line was out the door and around the corner.  I vowed to return when it was less busy.

I returned on a Monday afternoon.  It was occupied by only a few customers. I was happy and anxious to try the pie.  

I was not sure what pizza to order.  So I went with my sister's recommendation of the mushroom and sausage pizza.  She told me they make the sausage from a secret recipe.  She wish they sold the sausage.  My sister ordered her favorite white clam and bacon pizza.  We also order a large salad.  And, of course, we ordered birch beer to as our beverage of choice.  

We were able to see our pizza being prepared since Zuppardi's has an open kitchen.   They actually shucked all those clams for my sister's pizza.  Both pizzas looked sumptuous when they arrived although my sister's took a little longer.  

Both pizza were delicious.  I enjoyed every morsel.  I really miss this kind of pizza.  The crust was just the right texture with the right element of crunch thanks to the light corn meal.  The sausage was heavenly.  I had to agree with my sister.  I want to take some sausage back to Washington, DC.  Instead, I brought back 1/2 of a large pizza back to Washington, DC to share with my daughter.

Now for the elephant in the room.  Should this place rate as one of best in the USA?  You will have to go t0 Zuppardi's and decide for yourself.  As for me, I will continue to eat more and more pizzas and experiment at home with my own recipes.
