Experiencing a New Restaurant with a Empty Pocket Experience #New Restuarant #Burtons

I was always told it is cheaper to try a new restaurant for lunch than dinner.  I guess it depends on what you order!  My recent visit to Burton's, a new restaurant in College Park, MD cost me and my friend enough for 4 people.  Yes, we ordered what was suggested and more but...the bill was surprising.

We had beverages - two teas and 1 glass of Prosecco.  Our appetizers were  - 2 bowls of chili and 1 order of General Tso cauliflower (which was recommended and quite tasty).   But still we were not totally full.  I ordered a Reuben sandwich with fries while my friend had 2 crab cakes with sweet potato fries.  I ate my fries which were mediocre and my sampled her crab cakes.  We both had vanilla Crème Brulee which I must say was the best part of the meal.

I was not totally surprised of my bill of $36.99 although I felt the chili was over priced and the Reuben sandwich was just OK.  However, my friend was furious of her $77.53 bill.

She was felt she was cheated on the price of the crab cakes - an additional cake was almost $10.00.  The crab cakes I did feel were too small for the price.  In fact the waiter told me they were small.  I guess my friend was too busy drinking her Prose to hear his remark  She actually thought about asking the waiter to take the crab cakes back.  She told the waiter, that since the bill was so high, she was not going to give him a tip.  I had to calm her down.  She ordered the food and the prices were clearly displayed.  Although he was OK with not getting a tip, I encouraged to leave him something.  She low balled him and gave him only $5.00.  Fortunately, my tip was big.

I am not cheap.  But, I felt I was given a beating given the quality.  I may not had been has hard hit as my friend.   But a beating is a beating.  In this case, lunch was definitely not cheaper than dinner!  And, my friend is still in awe.
