Memories of Days Gone by with Armand's Chicago Pizza

One of my biggest joys when I first started working was going once a month to Armand for its Saturday morning pizza and salad brunch with my co-workers.  It was always a happy time.  We ate until we were stuffed off the thick crust pizza and rolled out of there ready for a nap.   I loved the experience but not the heaviness of the thick crust.  I always preferred the thin crust.  But the fun with my friends was worth all the calories.

As I and my co-workers moved from job to job and lost contact, Armand became a distant memory.  Fast forward many, many years and the name returned.  After doing a training, my partner mentioned that she had been to Armand with her granddaughter for children make their own pizza night.  I was surprised to hear a name from the past.  I told her I thought it went out of business. She said no.  In fact, there was one right near her house,  She enjoyed their pizza and wings.   She suggested we go there for lunch.  I agreed.  I am always up for pizza.  And, to get the opportunity to share the experience again with a co-worker was even better.

Upon arrival I noticed that the restaurant appeared smaller than my old hang out on Wisconsin Avenue.  And, the menu has changed.   I was glad to see that they now offered thin crust pizza.  In fact, they had a special pizza called The Harold with spinach, garlic, mushrooms, crispy bacon and tomatoes.  It should of been called The Arlene since it had EVERYTHING I love on a pizza without ordering separately.  I ordered large one (thin crust only comes.in large and small).  Since I really did not want a large nor did my partner, the waitress suggested splitting our toppings half and half,  I had my half The Harold and she had her toppings.  We completed our order with French fries and chicken wings.

I wasn't sure what to expect.  It has been a while and the thick crust stayed in my mind.   However, I was not disappointed.  It was delicious.  So much better than the thick crust.  I really didn't like the thick crust.

But upon reviewing all of the food our starving stomach thought we needed, we knew we had ordered too much.   We ate a little of everything and asked for a doggie bag.   I told home half of my half of pizza and celery sticks.  I let my partner take the rest of the wings.

Personally, knowing what I know now, I would have skipped the French fries and the wings.  Both of those items were average. Instead, I would of ordered a entire large Harold pizza.   I look forward to meeting The Harold again.  Hopefully it will not take me many years to return again.
