Northern Girl Ate Shrimp and Grits!

I love trying new foods.  In fact, I spend a lot of time seeking out new restaurants to taste new food creations.  That is why it's so surprising to people who know me that this Northerner had never tried shrimp and grits.   Personally, I have never even thought of  purchasing grits at the store.  Just the picture of them appeared tasteless, thick, and just yucky.   I seen it on menus everywhere.  But, I never ordered them.  Shrimps with French fries always appeared to be a better option. Besides, who wants shrimps for breakfast!

This all changed when I had brunch with my adopted family before seeing the movie Hidden Figures.   We sat down at a quaint neighborhood restaurant to chat and chew.  Mom ordered a breakfast hamburger (hamburger with a egg on top served with large onion rings) and sister ordered shrimp and grits.  I was torn.  There was so many yummy items on the menu from the delicious burger(which I had before), the pancakes, salmon BLT to the blackened chicken club.  I couldn't decide.  But, I thought about trying a new food experience with the shrimp and grits.  My sister said to try it.  She loved it.   I looked at the description - bay shrimp with creamy Tillamook cheddar grits, Andouille sausage soffrito and choice of egg.   I loved everything about the item except the grits.  I wondered if there would be enough cheese to take away the thick taste of the grits.

I finally decided that I was not marrying the meal.  I could always try it and order something else if it was horrible.  Further. to ensure a good start, I ordered a mimosa to go with it.  When it came, it looked wonderful just a little small for a adult portion.

Shrimp and Grits (Brookland's Finest)

I jumped right in first tasting the grits than the large shrimp.  It was nice!  I was shocked that it tasted so good.  I must say that the cheese and sausage almost completely nullified the grits which I was thankful.   What I did taste of the grits was just like I imagined - gritty.   The mimosas did add something to the grits experience.

Would I order it again?   Probably not.  There are so many excellent food items out there.  It was nice but this Northern girl still prefers her shrimps with French fries.  But, I thank my sister for encouraging me to try it.
