Large Party Horror at The Green Turtle in Ocean City, MD
As part of my job, I take clients with intellectual disabilities on vacations. This year I selected to escort them to Ocean City, MD in September. It was a lovely ride from Washington, DC. Everybody was excited about our week long vacation. We arrived at our hotel but the room were not ready for our group 30 plus. The hotel suggested the restaurant across the street - the Green Turtle. We inquired about then being able to handle our large group. We were assured that it would not be a problem. We all drove over in our vans ready for a good lunch before checking into the hotel.
Since we arrived before noon, the restaurant was almost empty and we were quickly seated in 6 tables. We had two waitress assisting us. Our drink orders were taking efficiently. Next, the two waitresses told our orders table by table. Somehow, the orders got confused and the food arrived mixed up. People at different tables got their foods -slowly one at a time -while others got nothing. In fact, some people were finished eating before their table mates actually got their food. At one table, a person order appeared to never had been placed. We were told that the person had to wait until all the food was delivered to ensure there was no extra orders. A staff person gave the client their food so he could eat with others at this table. It was later reordered and taken as a carryout for the staff since everyone had eaten. In addition, one whole table, had to take their food with them since the food took so long, most people were finished eating, and the rooms were ready.
As for the food, although described and pictured well, was terrible. These was especially the case of the colossal crab cake which was pricey and mostly fillers, and the Blackened Tilapia. The French fries were very salty and most returned them uneaten. The waitress said we should of expected it since they were seasoned with Old Bay seasoning. They never offered to give us new fries! However, the crab dip was excellent although their was an extra charge for additional pretzels sticks. And, the garden salad was well received. The rest of the food was basic at best which includes the chicken wings, and hamburgers.
I hate to say things got worse when it was time to pay, but it did. The waitresses took forever to bring the checks which we requested by table. The table orders were mixed up and we had to make them aware of food items not on the bill (We are honest). However, after making so many corrections, we gave up and just paid to prevent the waitresses from getting more confused. They lost money that day!
I am sorry to say, but Green Turtle in Ocean City is not equipped to service lunch for a large party of 30 or more. As for the food quality, I would not recommend it. Overall it was a horrible experience. We should of ate somewhere else. It was not a good way to start our vacation. We all agreed, that sometimes the green turtle, should be left in the water.
