A Hamburger at The Travel and Adventure Show in Washington, DC

Anybody who has ever met me knows that my first two loves are travel and food (http://surge365.com/travelmorenow).  So when The Travel and Adventure show came to Washington, DC, my face had to be in the place.  They had a diverse selection of vendors and exciting speakers including the host of the Amazing Race.  I loved his stories and the slides he showed of the series.  However, my main attraction was the food demonstrations.  I sat in the front table for each demonstration.  My mouth watered with each demonstration.  All the food looked and smelled great.  But no samples were given out.  They said it was for safety reasons.  This was until the last demonstration of the day.

The last demonstration was entitled "How to Make the Best Burger Ever (something like that).  I was thrilled.  I love hamburgers. If I could learn how to make a better hamburger, I was ready!  The chef came out with all of his ingredients.  He gave great suggestions and willing asked questions.  I, however, was drooling over sizzling burgers.  He made the perfect burger with several grades of ground beef and my favorite BACON all cooked inside.  The smell was like heaven.  He cooked the first three medium well burgers and topped them lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles.  I was starving and going crazy.  Unlike his other hosts, he gave two to staff members who ate them gingerly.  I wanted to be them.  I almost grabbed out of one of their hands.  He also gave one to a person at the front table were I was sitting.  But nothing for me.  I was pissed.

Time was running down and the chef was in his element as we cheered him on.  He made three more burgers.  I continued to sit and watch.  I WANTED A BURGER!   Time was running out and the demonstration was ending.  He was rushing.  Lots of the people began to leave.  I continued to sit and watch.  I WANTED A BURGER!  He was cued to finish the demonstration.  He prepared and served the last three burgers omitting all the lovely lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles.  He was in such a hurry the last burger was cooked rare.  He stated he should not serve it but asked who wanted the rare burger.  I jumped on the opportunity and was given the burger.  Although I do not usually eat rare meat.  I NEEDED THAT BURGER SO BAD.  I had waited and envision eating it for the whole demonstration.   I was so happy. You would of thought I hit the lottery.  I bit into the burger like it was my last meal.  It was wonderful! Although I wished I had the first burger cooked to perfection and nestled with all my favorite toppings, this was MINE.  I loved and savored every little bite while they cleaned the staging area and dimmed the lights.  With every juicy bite, I keep thinking this is the best burger ever!
