Lunch on Run with Onions
Lunch is a great time to spend with friends and to share ideas. However, sometimes you just don't have time. This happened to me when I want to be early for a job interview in a unfamiliar location. I left early, before lunch, by Metro to ensure I didn't have to look for parking and to check out the location for safety as well as possible restaurants. I was two hours early. How did I know that Metro was going to be that effective in getting me to my destination.
I first found the location which was several blocks from the Metro. Next, I checked out the nearby restaurants within a five block radius. There was so many great places. I even found a theatre to check out later. In fact there was so many restaurants and fast food joints, I had a hard time making up my mind. I just kept walking and scanning the menus. I was hungry but didn't want to smell too much like food. I considered a slice of pizza. But when I peeked into the window, the shop was empty. I did not consider it a good sign for fresh food. So I kept walking.
I finally made up my mind to stop in at a interesting diner I saw a couple blocks away which had foot high cakes in the window. However, when I glanced at my Blackberry, I had less than a half hour to get to my interview. Panic set in. I could not arrive at the interview starving with my stomach kicking my back. I needed food fast. I had no time to sit and order or wait for a preparation of a sandwich. I remember seeing a 7-11 and rushed in that direction.
As I moved quickly towards 7-11, I planned a quick meal. I opened the door and walked to the counter. I ask the clerk for the American staple - a hot dog. I paid the clerk and grabbed my hot dog. I went to the condiment station and loaded my dog with chili, cheese, onions, and peppers. I walked towards my interview eating my loaded hot dog with napkin in tow. I finished my lunch at the front door and threw my paper in the trash.
I savored the taste of the hot dog. I am sad to say it was delicious and cheap. I arrived at my interview full and satisfied. It was only after I was called into the room and sat down to discuss my greatness that I thought that maybe I should of skipped the onions!
