An American Lunch in Dubai

I was fortunate enough to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  Although I spent most of my time in Dubai, I did travel all over the country.  I believe it is the most beautiful country I ever seen.  It is hard to imagine that all that beauty was once desert sand.  The food, however, was not as good.  My stomach is not partial to the Arab cuisine.    I thought, however, that the American food would be better.

After a long morning of traveling the city by foot and metro rail, Ms. F and I decided to stop at a Hookah restaurant for lunch.  We were so excited to see American food on the menu.  I mentioned to Ms. F that they had one of her favorites on the menu - milk shakes.  We excitedly ordered our food.  I order a tuna club sandwich with French fries and Sprite.  Ms. F ordered a chicken club sandwich with fries and a vanilla milk shake.

Our beverages came first.  I opened my soda bottle and savored the crisp flavor.  Ms. F tasted her thick, thick vanilla milk shake and made a face.  She stated, "I don't know what that is.  It taste like vanilla ice cream with lots of real vanilla".  She told the waitress and the waitress told the chef.  They exchanged a lot of words in a language we did not understand.   After the chef added some items, the milk shake was sent back.   Ms. F, still optimistic, took a large sip.  She took a napkin and spit it out.  She couldn't believe it.  It was worse than before.  Again she told the waitress that the milk shake was terrible.  Please she stated, just give me a Coke soda and remove it from my bill.  The waitress looked surprised and told her that all the customers love their milk shakes.

Our sandwiches arrived.  You could tell they were made with lots of love and care.  Although my sandwich was not made with albacore white tuna and lacked bacon (muslin country), it was delicious.  It was made on fresh bread loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs and olives on the side.   The French fries were GREAT!  Ms. F sandwich had fresh grilled chicken on fresh bread with lettuce, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs with olives on the side and the GREAT French fries.  Unfortunately Ms. F does not like vegetables.  So off went the lettuce, tomatoes and olives.  After rearranging, she happily bit into her sandwich and nipped on her fries.  Meanwhile around us people were enjoying hookah and drinks.

As we walked back to our hotel, we both looked at each and said that was the best meal we had in UAE.  Those French fries were best we ever ate.  Although not a perfect meal, we were satisfied customers.
